In South Fujian, a province in China, a rooster and hen pair is the symbol of starting a family. Thus it is a traditional custom that a pair will be included in the bountiful wedding presents delivered to the newly wedded couple’s home to wish them health, happiness, peace, prosperity, and most importantly, many offspring.
“Family of Prosperity” is inspired by this tradition. The pronunciation of “chicken” in Chinese also sounds like the phrase that means “accumulating a fortune.” The round shaped salt and pepper shakers are decorated with peonies, which are also good omens for prosperity. We hope all collectors of this set will be blessed with a happy family and a fortunate life, experiencing abundance in offspring and wealth.
